As the dust settles on his AEW release, did CM Punk clash with another veteran?

Apparently, yes, if we are to believe the Wrestling Observer.

Maybe we do, maybe we do not, but here’s the story.

Back when William Regal made his AEW debut, he and CM Punk crossed paths in the back.

The two veterans surely would exchange pleasantries, right?

Not exactly.

According to the report via the Observer, Punk confronted Regal in the back during his debut evening.

When they spoke, it’s said that Punk told the former NXT commissioner that he didn’t trust him, calling him a “stooge for Triple H.

Here’s where things get…different.

Per the reporting, if things are being accurately represented, Regal didn’t share details of the interaction with anyone immediately.

It took a while for him to share it because, as the WWE employee noted “it was no big deal.

Maybe some in the AEW backstage area should take note of that?

With what has transpired in AEW, things have been said and then things escalated, because there seem to be a group of high school kids there (just my outside perspective, but that is how it comes off).

Then you have one of those high school kids (Punk) stirring the pot, and the seasoned veteran (Regal) thinks little of the talk.

And…nothing happens. Like, no clash, no scuffle, no beating, no suspensions or releases.

Words were spoken, words were ignored, things ended up being no big deal. How refreshing, right?

Sadly, that was too rare when it came to Punk interactions.

What might be most notable here? Regal was and is a close friend of Triple H-it is one reason he went back to WWE once Hunter rose to prominence.

Back in AEW, Punk called Regal a Triple H stooge-allegedly.

Now, Punk is a free agent, and has apparently had WWE dreams.

And Triple H, with whom he’s had issues in the past? Now runs the show.

There are reports following his release that, should Triple H want Punk, it will be a Nick Khan call. Surely if Vince McMahon wanted Punk, there’s be no debate.

If we end up seeing CM Punk return to WWE, it will mean a lot of things were less of an issue than we had heard (possible) or that one Phil Brooks did a lot of damage control in order to repair relationships.
