WWE cut a ton of talent over the past two years. Some of those let go were not a surprise, but others left fans annoyed.

In particular, Regal was given his walking papers in a shocking move. Despite not wrestling anymore, Regal was great as General Manager and still has plenty to teach the young generation.

Once gone from WWE, Regal debuted for AEW at Revolution in March of last year. He quickly put together the Blackpool Combat club with Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli.

Then, Regal turned on Moxley at Full Gear. Therefore, MJF became the new AEW World Champion.

Days before Regal’s heel turn, reports circulated how he was leaving AEW and rejoining WWE. To write him out, MJF attacked Regal who was stretched out of the arena.

Regal appeared on Distraction Pieces, where he mentions how his AEW run did not go as planned.

“That was one of the things, in the last months of AEW,” said Regal. “It was getting far too much about me.”

“’It should have been about the talent I was with, not about me. I’m quite happy being in the background.”

“All it is is grief. I’ve had my run. I couldn’t have had a better last few months as far as TV and doing that, but I didn’t go there with that intention.”

“The intention was to do something different, and it started off the way it did. But, I didn’t expect it to end up being this thing that it was for the last seven months where I just became talent.”

“I went there with a different plan because I was asked to go there to help out in a different capacity. And that never transpired.”

Regal is now WWE’s Vice President of Global Talent Development
