Cody Rhodes is currently riding a high wave in the WWE. With that being said, during a recent interview, he reflected upon his “final” AEW promo.

Cody Addresses Final AEW Promo

The American Nightmare recently chatted with Sam Roberts during his Not Sam Wrestling show. His final AEW promo, which aired during Dynamite on the January 19th, 2022, episode, was brought up.

He notes that he wasn’t fully aware that it was going to be his last AEW. He reveals he remembers telling CM Punk that he was going to mention his pipe bomb promo, so as not to blindside him.

CM Punk knew beforehand that he was going to talk about how Punk said he would do things like work for NJPW or team up with the Bunks, but Rhodes was the person who did it. He notes that he likes to refer to that last promo as his “exit interview”.

Rhodes Talks Other Things

The WWE superstar also talked about his non-heel turn at the conclusion of his AEW run. He recalled when fans threw his belt back at him.

As he states, they were at the Target Center in a multi-man tag match. The WWE star says he tried to “have fun” with it.

He goes on to state that Dax Harwood knew exactly what to do, and they all “leaned into it”. In fact, he notes that when this stuff happened, he’d tell Tony Khan and QT Marshall (or whoever was there) that he was “leaning in” on it.

He states that he doesn’t know if anyone knew what he meant. Still, he notes that it was all “chaos” at that time.

After his infamous “last AEW promo”, he would participate in one last match. The American Nightmare happened to lose that final ladder bout to Sammy Guevara, also losing his AEW TNT title.

Shortly after in February, he officially left the AEW. He would make a splashing return to the WWE, participating in that year’s WrestleMania 38.
