Does WWE have plans for a secondary Women’s title for NXT? There’s an update on this story, below.
WWE Plans – Secondary NXT Women’s Championship
The recent WWE Draft saw Indi Hartwell relinquish the NXT Women’s Championship due to a main roster call-up. It also caused talents Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre to vacate the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles for the same reason.
During the NXT Battleground media call these championships were brought up, as well as a possible secondary women’s title. After all, the men’s division of NXT has four belts they can compete against, while the women’s does not.
WWE Champions “Struggling” With Injuries
Shawn Michaels addressed this during the media call. He reveals that an idea of another championship for the women’s division has been brought up “now and then”.
However, he feels that the developmental brand gives its female stars plenty of storylines. Plus, NXT is more about “developing” talent than titles.
Michaels also adds that NXT lost a lot of their veterans to call-ups during the WWE Draft. This has resulted in a very “young” locker room.
As such, Shawn isn’t opposed to the idea of a secondary championship for the ladies. Although he would like to “vet” the women’s division out first, as he doesn’t feel comfortable with a “young” roster that might not be ready for a title role on the brand.
Sounds like Michaels is sitting on the possibility of another NXT Women’s Championship, but he’s not pulling the trigger just yet. With the points he provides, it does make sense.
NXT Battleground takes place this Sunday, May 28th and the card is stacked. The good news is the NXT Women’s title will finally have an owner, as Tiffany Stratton will face Lyra Valkyria for the championship.
Whoever wins the match will become the 100th female to hold the title in the company’s history. Should make for an interesting bout.
