On the October 7th RAW, just after surviving Hell In A Cell at Bad Blood, CM Punk appeared to open the show. He gave a succinct promo. He noted that he was going to need to take some time off to rest and recover. After the brutal match, that made sense. While he didn’t come out and state that he would miss Crown Jewel, the idea was implied, and is expected to be the case. He may certainly have some wear and tear from the Cell battle. Bu, he is not missing time due to injury.

Anyone who has paid attention to him knows that CM Punk has always been outspoken. He is not afraid to share his opinion, especially when it happens to be a cause he is passionate about. I am pretty sure he had ripped WWE years ago for getting into bed with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to run multiple events over the course of their years long agreement. That stance is understandable because things Punk supports run counter to what is allowed in Saudi Arabia.

And, after he said his piece last week, fans noticed he wouldn’t work Crown Jewel. There were some lively comments on social media, including one from Punk himself which he has since removed. The comment was caught by some sources. It shows a pretty good reason why CM Punk will miss Crown Jewel. It was not hard to see that the mercurial Superstar still has no love lost for the country, it’s government or anything about that.

In fairness, Punk won’t be the first Superstar to opt out of the event for those kinds of reasons. Some have ditched it based on past experiences. Others have cited personal, religious or political reasons. While it is hard to see, WWE’s relationship with the Saudi government does seem to be having a positive effect. After all, there were no women on the first show. Now, there are women’s matches. It may not be much, but maybe before CM Punk retires, he will also grace that part of the world with his presence.
