WWE Made Last Minute Change to Make John Cena’s Pipebomb Promo on SmackDown Less Cringy?

It seems that WWE made a pivot during John Cena’s “pipebomb promo” part II on last week’s SmackDown to make it less cringy.

John Cena did the unthinkable last week by launching a similar rant that CM Punk did years ago. However, there was something odd about the entire segment. Cena put Punk through a table, and Punk lay lifeless throughout the current WWE champs’ version of the infamous “The Pipebomb” promo. Well, WWE made a last-minute change to the segment to make that element look less silly.

During a recent Q&A session, WrestleVotes revealed the segment was altered midway by backstage personnel.

“It’s funny you say that. Because I heard on Saturday that if you go back and rewatch the segment, you’ll see after about five minutes of him lying there, a referee slides into the ring to check on him,” Wrestle Votes said. “I heard they did that to make it seem less cringy that he was just lying there. So that wasn’t supposed to be the case, but someone in the back said, ‘He can’t just lie there for 10 minutes, send somebody out,’ and that’s what they did.”

The segment took place after John Cena picked up a DQ win over R-Truth. This led to CM Punk making his way out to the ring to brawl with his arch-nemesis. The Never Seen 17 laid him out with a low-blow and an AA through the table. Following that, he recreated a parody of Punk’s infamous Pipebomb from 2011, which left the WWE Universe stunned.

The two iconic rivals are set to collide against each other for the last time this weekend. The match will be for Cena’s Undisputed WWE Championship at the 2025 Night of Champions PLE. For weeks, both superstars have been recreating traces of their storied rivalry. With the stage set for this epic collision, it remains to be seen who will reign supreme in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
