It’s right to the point for the SmackDown results for October 25th, 2024, with perhaps the big draw being that Rhodes-Gunther confrontation.

Quick Results:
- “Game Seven” between Carmelo and Andrade was a dud-not on them. LA Knight took both men out and ended the match. Money on a triple threat…
- Naomi defeated Candice LeRae. Got more time than I expected, so I guess there is that?
- Motor City Machine Guns defeat #DIY to become the number one contenders. Win came after Johnny accidentally hit Ciampa with a kick.
- In what may have been planned, but not advertised for the same night, we had the Bloodline come out and we got our tag team title match right away. Jimmy Uso was there to be a thorn in his younger brother’s side, and he wasn’t alone. Roman Reigns came out, and the two were able to keep Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu away from the ring. At that point, a masked but obvious Jey Uso emerged and took out Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa, paving the way for your winners, and NEW tag team champions, the Motor City Machine Guns.
Best Match:
These two could wrestle forever and I don’t think anyone would find a reason to complain, would they? Could they?
The ending, I think, screams “triple threat”(it did), though I still yearn for someone to have the guts to resurrect the three way dance.
But for me, tonight? How about those Motor City Machine Guns? You know they are a big deal, they were one of the best teams to not work in WWE. Now they do, and they have the gold to go with it.
Worst Match:
Naomi and Candice. Just didn’t move the needle for me.
Noteworthy Moments:
New tag champs surely ranks. But the biggest for me? What we did, and did not get. We got Jimmy and Jey hugging it out mid-ring, with Roman at a distance. The healing has begun. But, considering what Jimmy and Jey said, I almost expected there to be a little more drama. Yes, the Bloodline cost Jey his title, so he had reason to return the favor. But, the hug was unexpected just yet.
And, unless he’s lurking in the shadows still but pulling some strings, no Heyman. I was so sure he’d have been brokering the reunion.
We do indeed have a US Title triple threat for Crown Jewel. Plus, based on recent weeks, there will be a women’s tag title fatal four way: Bianca and Jade defend against Damage CTRL, Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend and Chelsea and Piper. The card is rounding into form.
Holy S$It Moments:
We knew Randy Orton wanted Kevin Owens, especially after Owens went after The Viper. Randy was told by Nick Aldis that the match could not happen. That it was “above his pay grade”. So Orton got Triple H out tonight and accused Hunter of protecting Kevin Owens. Instead, Hunter said he was trying to protect Orton. Interesting twist.
But, Orton got his wish. Hunter said to Randy though “from this point forward, I’d protect yourself at all costs”. Or something along those lines. Pretty nice way to set up Owens as a dangerous heel.
Lowlights:
I may be alone in thinking it, but I feel like had Heyman popped out during that final segment, the roof might have come off the Barclays Center. I am ready for the Wise Man to come back.
Highlights:
Superb opening segment between two old friends and rivals, Triple H and Randy Orton. The Viper was masterful on the mic-he can be good, but tonight was another level. He told Hunter to not think like “the boss”, but rather, what would The Game have done? It sets up a Kevin Owens-Randy Orton clash, with Hunter concerned that Owens could end Orton.

After the final bell:
Admittedly, I was curious how they would book this SmackDown, knowing they were up against game one of the 2024 World Series. And while baseball might not be your cup of tea, or perhaps your favorite team choked, it’s the two biggest television markets in the country going head to head. I absolutely expect a ratings dip, as I bet WWE does too. But it was still a really good show.
Still, having Cody and Gunther cut promos is good. Carmelo and Andrade, match 7 with LA Knight officiating was a smart call. It’s ending sets up the inevitable next match for all three. And #DIY and the Motor City Machine Guns fought for the chance to become #1 contenders for the tag titles. Was it the best lineup? Not necessarily, but I can see why WWE felt strongly about it coming in. And how it turned out was better than expected. Did not expect the Guns to go from #1 contenders to new champs within about twenty minutes, but it was a whirlwind and pretty awesome ending.
