It’s time for our RAW results for July 22, 2024, and you can’t help but notice that it’s getting hot on the way to SummerSlam.

Quick Results:

  • Bron Breakker wins by stoppage, defeating Ilya Dragunov and becoming the #1 contender for Sami Zayn’s Intercontinental Championship.
  • Sonya Deville overcomes a big botch and defeats Lyra Valkyria.
  • The Final Testament defeated Xavier Woods, Otis and Akira Tozawa
  • Pete Dunne and Bronson Reed never happened, with Sheamus getting involved pre-match and invoking chaos. Call me crazy, but that could be a nice pre-show match in a couple weeks.
  • Zelina Vega scores a bit of an upset over Zoey Stark
  • Jey Uso and Sami Zayn defeat JD McDonagh and Finn Balor in a non-title match. After the match, Bron Breakker split Sami in half with a spear to close the show.

Best Match

I have to go with Bron and Ilya. Yes, some good options, but that one was a banger, and it earned the chants of “this is awesome” for a reason.

But, in terms of entraces? No doubt about it, the yeets have it.

Worst Match

Kind of just because something has to land here, I guess Zelina versus Zoey. But honestly, that wasn’t that bad either, because I think it furthers the new group story line, which is valuable.

Holy S!@# Moment

Really loved the opening segment between Priest and Gunther. Admittedly, I missed last week due to vacation, but I caught the highlights of that interaction. This week’s effort was superb in my opinion. I do think that, with the big Berlin PLE looming, a Gunther win in Cleveland will be a betting favorite. But I wonder if perhaps we instead see Priest retain due to some Judgement Day shenanigans. That would set two things in motion-a Priest face turn we’ve seen hints of, and a Gunther win in front of what would be nearly home country fans. Makes too much sense, doesn’t it? Especially if the splinters of JD interfere in Berlin and cost Damian the title.

CM Punk is going to get Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam, but with a bit of an interesting twist. There will be a guest official, none other than Seth Rollins. You know, a man who has history-and issues-with both Superstars.

Dirty Dom has, for now, finally shut down Liv Morgan. Whether that sticks or not is anyone’s guess, but my feeling is this is a short lived facade.

Noteworthy Moment

The next two RAW shows are not going to be on USA in the United States. The show is, of course, being moved due to USA coverage of the Olympics (USA and SyFy are both owned by NBCUniversal, which is the American broadcast home of the Games). Just something to make note of should you go looking for it next week or the post-SummerSlam show and it’s not where it’s supposed to be.

Interesting long term story telling with Rhea Ripley telling the Judgement Day lackeys to not touch Jey Uso. Which of course, they ignored, and she was unhappy about.

Lowlights:

I know she’s only back in the ring a couple weeks, but it was a bummer to have a very obvious botch from Sonya. Chalk it up to one of ring rust or somehow her arm got hung up on Lyra’s rear end, but it was obvious and if you check out X, it was picked apart there by plenty.

Highlights:

I mean, there was plenty to enjoy, but this one deserves a lot of love.

Well, it’s good to be back doing RAW results. I wish I was back without catching Covid, but it is what it is. And that is why this one might be a touch on the abbreviated side, because a few days in it is still pummeling me like a Bron Breakker spear. But I am back just in time for the RAW results and to watch the final push toward what should be an epic SummerSlam.
