For what seems like years (probably longer) fans have been yearning for WWE to add women’s mid-card titles. As the SmackDown and RAW women’s locker rooms get more crowded, there is a case to be made. We’ve seen NXT add a mid-card belt, the Women’s North American Championship. If NXT was adding one, surely the “main roster’ brands would too. Right?

Yes and no

On August 9th, Triple H gave us news of a new woman’s championship. Just one, not one per brand. And honestly, not likely one many will go crazy about.

Nothing against the Speed Championship. However, we don’t see it defended on RAW, SmackDown or a PLE. I get the motive behind it, but when your current Speed Champion (Andrade) doesn’t bring it out during his SmackDown matches, how big of a deal is it? Admittedly, I don’t know if there’s some rule against that, but if you want to get people to talk about it, know about it and tune in, why wouldn’t you want him showing it off?

Well, like or not, now the women are getting one of their own. Without taking my previous rant into consideration, it seems logical. If the men have one, so too shall the women. It does give someone a chance to have something meaningful that gets defended on social media. So, it isn’t all bad. But I still go with my original view. There are more than enough talented women to justify a women’s United States Championship and a women’s Intercontinental Championship.

Of course, it is not up to me. And if WWE thought it should happen, I would think it would have already. But I for one am not giving up hope. But, for now, WWE has one more woman’s championship.
