This one may surprise ever so slightly, but NXT Superstar Scrypts will become a free agent soon-specifically when his deal runs out in about a month.

He has gone by several names during his 3 plus years with WWE. We first met him as Reginald, a valet and sommelier for Carmella. Then he became Reggie, unlikely WWE 24/7 Champion. After some time off, he popped up in NXT, under a mask, now known as Scrypts. And now, or soon, we will know him as Sydney Akeem, free agent.

What’s happening?

Fightful reported that the company had informed Scrypts of their decision not to renew his contract. His current deal expires in about a month. Because his deal is expiring, rather than him being released with time left, he will become a free agent on June 1. That date comes courtesy of Scrypts via social media, as covered by Wrestling Inc.

Considering his background and his path to WWE, he did well. He was brought in with a background as a Cirque du Soleil performer. That acrobatic background was on full display during his many creative defenses of the 24/7 title, as well as his frequent evasive maneuvers. While working on the main roster, he was more of a sideshow. Once in NXT, the man who was briefly behind the mask got to work more in the ring. His high flying was still on display, but he was working more traditional matches.

However, as WWE has been doing of late, costs are being cut. We’ve seen the company release a number of talents lately. For the former Reggie, it wasn’t about cutting, just a matter of no need to extend him. With Scrypts soon a free agent, it will be interesting to see what happens to him post-WWE. But he has enough potential that he should land something somewhere. So, will NXT Superstar Scrypts be a free agent for long?
