Mandy Rose claims that if not for politics inside WWE, she would have gotten the chance to share the ring with Asuka at WrestleMania 35.
Rose is one of the recent what if stories in WWE. The New York native was a product of the company’s developmental system and seemed like a favorite of former CEO Vince McMahon. However, she never had the same success as a wrestler on the main roster as she eventually would in NXT.
Yet, back in 2019, it did look like she was moving on an upward trajectory. And had finally gotten some momentum as a singles performer. Heading into that year’s edition of WrestleMania, there were rumblings that she could face off with future WWE Hall of Famer Asuka. However, both women’s title belts were placed into the main event triple threat match between Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Ronda Rousey.

Well, Rose suggested in a new interview with Card Player that a title match with Asuka was the early plan before she lost the title to Flair weeks before WrestleMania 35.
“There was talk about me facing Asuka for the women’s championship. But like anything in WWE, everything changes in the blink of an eye,” Rose said. “I don’t know why, but things just didn’t work out that way. It’s why I never got too excited for things in my career. Or I never let things get to me too much.
“Because it was always changing so quickly. I just never believed anything until it was right in front of me before I went out in the ring. The politics change so much.”
After a long run as NXT Women’s Champion, Mandy Rose was surprisingly released from the company in 2022. She has not returned to the ring since and instead makes her money from her podcast and OnlyFans page.
