WWE has many some shocking releases over the years, like Mr. Kennedy and Bray Wyatt. While those were not the top stars in WWE at the time of their release, the opposite could be said for Kurt Angle. He entered WrestleMania 22 as World Heavyweight Champion and months later, he was gone. Basically, his addiction was out of control and he did want help; while also being upset at WWE.
He was released, leaving many perplexed considering he was known for always delivering classic matches full of aggression. Problems in his real-life were getting bad and instead of getting help, he signed with TNA. He was always featured at the top, outside of being removed from TV several times due to legal matters. Eventually, he returned to WWE and had a short retirement tour. It concluded at WrestleMania 35, losing to Baron Corbin in match nobody wanted to see.
Kurt Angle Struggled In WWE Following TNA Stint
While on Notsam Wrestling, Angle claims joining TNA tarnished his WWE return. “I just felt that my second time in WWE, I wasn’t so much appreciated,” said Angle. “Think it has a lot to do with me leaving the company high and dry in 2006 and going straight to TNA. I was supposed to go back to WWE in six months. Vince McMahon wanted me to take six months off and come back. So literally, when I left his office and I quit, I called TNA and got a contract that day. And, I think [WWE] was like, ‘okay if he comes back, we’re going to teach him a little lesson.’”
Angle has been open to returning if he can manage someone like Chad Gable. Otherwise, he is laying-low and getting some needed rest. His addition to pills and alcohol was so bad, he is honestly lucky to be alive. Therefore, did WWE punish Kurt Angle for leaving and going right to TNA?
