During WrestleMania 40 night 2, Cody Rhodes finally finished his story by defeating Roman Reigns to become Undisputed WWE Champion. In the process, he became the first Rhodes family member to win the top prize in WWE. He accomplished something neither his father, Dusty Rhodes, or brother, Dustin Rhodes, could do. It was certainly an emotional moment for the entire Rhodes family, WWE roster and fans.

After scoring the three count, Rhodes looked up towards the heavens and spoke to Dusty. On “The Pivot Podcast,” Cody revealed what he said. “At ‘Mania, I had a brief moment where I looked up and said, ‘Sorry it took me so long,'” said Rhodes. “I think I had planned on saying a bazillion other things, but that’s really how I felt. Like, ‘Hey, this is really cool. Your widow — she’s in the ring. My mom. Your family’s taken care of. Generationally, we’re set up, but sorry it took so long.'”

Dusty sadly passed away in 2015 at 69 years old due to kidney failure. In pro wrestling, Dusty did about everything; including being a 3 time NWA World Heavyweight Champion. He worked for WWE as a wrestler, but never reached the top. After retiring, he played a huge role in helping develop NXT. Dustin is best known as Goldust to WWE fans. Currently, he works for AEW using is real name.

Cody is in his second stint with WWE after leaving in 2016. It was for the best as he worked around the world to improve his skills. He helped create AEW before returning to WWE. As a champion, Cody has been phenomenal. He almost reminds me of John Cena as he always goes that extra mile for fans. So, what do you think of the message Cody Rhodes shared with his late dad, Dusty Rhodes?
