It is a big week for WWE, with WrestleMania 40 not far away, and Cody Rhodes re-signs with the largest pro wrestling promotion out there.

After a long run, Cody Rhodes requested his WWE release and it was granted. Then, he toured the world and began to change how fans see him. It led to the creation of AEW, which was followed by Cody leaving that company about two years ago. Instantly, he returned to WWE has been featured in the top tier of matches. And, it will likely not change as Cody Rhodes re-signs with WWE and he gave with Justin Walker the details.
“I can tell you [retirement at] 40 is out of the question,” said Rhodes. “Because, not to give you scoop, but it was widely reported, I did sign a new contract with WWE. It extends beyond my 40th birthday.”
That is still two years away, so he signed a long-term contract. In the past, talent have been asked to sign either three or five year deals. If WWE is going to keep Cody in the top, then it makes sense to re-sign him. WWE does want to see a repeat of what occurred between Rhodes and AEW. Despite being 38 years old, Rhodes no longer sees retirement at 40.
Trying To Avoid Overstaying His Welcome
“The plan is still, when it’s time to step out, to step out without it being a painful process,” said Rhodes. “Solely, because I saw my dad [Dusty Rhodes] as an old man wrestler and he loved it and enjoyed it. But, as his son it was hard to see. It’s not 40 anymore. I’ll update the number. I hit the prime run late in the game. I often forget that I’m nearing 40.”
Rhodes will be very busy next weekend. Night one of WrestleMania 40 closes with Rhodes & Seth Rollins vs The Rock & Roman Reigns. Then, on night two, Rhodes vs Reigns closes the historic event. After winning the Royal Rumble again, Rhodes is attempting to dethrone Reigns. Outside of a single pinfall loss over the summer, Reigns has not lost in several years.
