At one time, Cody Rhodes was at the bottom of the wrestling ladder. Rhodes was portraying Stardust and he hated the gimmick. Eventually, he asked and was granted his WWE release. WWE was shocked Cody wanted to leave.

He did not quit the business. Instead, Rhodes traveled the world and worked for any promotion imaginable. During this time, he became friends with The Elite and they created a pay per view together. It was such a success, Tony Khan got involved and all those people created what is now called AEW. Rhodes was their top star, before leaving after about two years and retuning to WWE. Now, Cody sits at the top of WWE’s ladder.

When it comes to dream opponents, Cody Rhodes keeps thinking of Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Or, Jake Roberts for short. “So I always change my answer so frequently,” said Rhodes to WLTX News. “So, I always say like the answer is going to change a lot. But, I had recently started thinking the way I am as a wrestler and I guess a character and how I fit into WWE, I’d really like to get in there with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. Because Jake The Snake, when he was a bad guy, was really just like psychologically menacing and different. He wasn’t yelling. It wasn’t the like big bombastic 80s promos. He was really sinister, like ahead of his time. But Jake Roberts.”

Roberts joined AEW as the manager for Lance Archer. They worked together for years, until earlier in the moth. Nowadays, Archer is part of the Don Callis Family while Roberts is with LFI. While Cody will never wrestle Roberts due to age, he did get in there with Archer. And, they produced great TV during a difficult time for many.
