Despite being one of AEW’s most loyal talents and public supporters, wrestling legend Chris Jericho is starting to seem more interested in a return to WWE.
Chris Jericho is probably among the top 10 or 20 greatest performers in professional wrestling history. Over four decades, he has been able to keep himself relevant by constantly evolving his character and making interesting career choices. One of the most notable occurred in 2019 when he joined AEW at its inception.
He took the new version of himself that he created in NJPW after leaving WWE in 2018 and brought it to the upstart promotion. He would become their first world champion and give the brand a level of mainstream appeal it badly needed. “Y2J” was a key part of their rapid growth as the company’s staunchest public supporter over the last six years.
It got to a point where it seemed like a lock that he had no interest in a return to WWE and would eventually end his illustrious career in All Elite Wrestling. Or maybe not, based on new comments during an appearance at the Manchester, England Horror, Rock, and Wrestle Fest this week.
Chris Jericho seems more open to a WWE return then ever before
“I would have considered a return to WWE before things changed. I mean, you’d be crazy not to consider it,” Jericho said (h/t Ringside News). “Once again, there are two teams you can play on, which is amazing. And it’s one of the reasons why I wanted to take a chance and go to AEW in the first place. It was a real gamble.”
“So, yeah, of course I would consider going back there. I would also consider not going back there, too. It just depends on what the situation is and what’s going on with me at the time. It’s not even a ‘never say never’ thing. It’s more like, ‘consider all your options and choose wisely,'” he added. “And if you’ve followed my career, you know I’ve never had a problem with changing, evolving, reinventing, or taking chances. I’m not scared of that.”
With WWE as hot as ever and AEW trying to dig out of the hole it created for itself over the last couple of years, it seems like Chris Jericho is looking to do something he has done throughout his career. Jump on board a brand during a hot streak. He is sure to get a WWE Hall of Fame invite in the near future, whether he is with the company or not.
