As things are seeming to heat up, we have an update on talks between WWE and Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks.
And, if you were hopeful to see The Boss back in WWE in 2024, you may have to temper your expectations.
According to Fightful, talks between the company and their former champion have recently fallen apart.
This would mark the second such time talks between Mercedes and a wrestling promotion appeared to break down.
Earlier in December, it was reported that Mercedes Mone no longer seemed destined for AEW.
Update On Talks Between WWE, Mercedes Mone
Of course, with how things have gone with WWE in recent months, there will be fans expecting that this is just a swerve.
The report comes from Fightful, which also earlier on December 29th reported that WWE is nearing a deal to bring back a former champion for Monday’s RAW Day 1 special.
That return is said to involve a former WWE champion that is not currently on the active roster. Using that rule of thumb, Mercedes Mone at least sort of fit the possible surprise.
But, if talks have indeed ended, then it seems quite unlikely that Mercedes Mone or Sasha Banks is showing up any time soon.
There are a few things to consider with this one, to be honest.
On one hand, it is entirely possible that talks pick back up. Bringing her back, as Banks or Mone, makes a ton of sense.
We already are looking at a friend in Bayley who is probably going to need backup in 2024.
It’s also possible someone is leaking this to throw us all off the scent.
Or, Mercedes has decided she’s coming back soon, but does not want to work in WWE, even if Triple H is now running things.
Tony Khan might be motivated to spend more on her than he was say, two months ago. Tired of losing to WWE, perhaps the AEW boss added some zeroes to any Mone offer and is going to land her.
We can safely say that Mercedes, in one form or another, will wrestle again soon.
What remains to be see is for who and when. We may know before 2024 is a week old.
