Getting a chance to speak more freely, Matt Riddle revealed he was surprised by his WWE release…but not in the way that you’d think.

Riddle was one of the numerous talents released in the fall of 2023. Some of those getting released were underutilized or just never quite cut it.

But in the case of Matt Riddle? The release made sense for so many other reasons.

The former Superstar had a ton of baggage outside of the ring and even in the back.

He was known to rub some the wrong way, and that was before his private life became a lot less private.

The Original Bro sat down with Chris Van Vliet to discuss his history, and his comments were quite interesting.

The man said he was surprised by being let go…but not in a way you might think.

Specifically, he actually expected to be released months before he actually was.

And, he owned his issues and what drove WWE to release him.

To be honest, his candor was refreshing. Some talents would have done anything and everything to bury things and deny or deflect.

Instead, he took the history head on. Riddle noted that with everything he did, he fully expected to be gone long before he was.

He acknowledged he was handled differently, and instead of changing to take advantage of his chances, he did not change and now he is a former WWE Superstar.

The talented fighter also did think that the merger with UFC parent Endeavor might work against him, given his past in that company.

Still, after taking in his interview, I was left with one big thought: here is someone who seems remorseful and possibly willing to grow.

And as such, I would not be shocked at all to see Riddle work his way back into WWE. It might take time, but this would be one bridge I do not think he burned.

Personally, I would not hate seeing him back on RAW or SmackDown down the road and seeing him fill those results once again.
