Goldberg has been angling for a retirement match for years, but has AEW finally caved and given him what he wants?
Goldberg Any Closer To Earning AEW Match?
For Goldberg, he is looking for one more match before completely retiring. So far, nobody has shown interest in booking such a bout.
Goldberg declared how Vince McMahon promised him a retirement match. Instead, that simply did not happen and, at this point, Vince has little power left.
And, I do not see Triple H bending either.
For about a year, Goldberg has been looking to see if Tony Khan will take the bait. So far, no luck.
As for the future, it seems like AEW is fine waiting. Sean Sapp on the Fightful Select podcast, went over how neither side has made much progress.
“Every time I ask, I would be told not right now,” said Sapp. “Not right now.”
“Definitely didn’t close the door on it. He’s not getting any younger.”
“However, I don’t know how young you need to be to do a Goldberg match.”
Time is certainly a big issue for Goldberg. He turned 57 year old last month, so his body is not great.
Jim Ross AEW Contract Expires Very Soon
Toss in years of abuse from football and pro wrestling, making the body even more damaged. He might have to understand that AEW is simply not interested.
The former WCW star spent his final run in WWE taking a bunch of losses. He last wrestled at Elimination Chamber 2022, losing to Roman Reigns via technical submission.
Reigns vs Goldberg took WWE about two years to happen. In the end, the match was disappointing.
So, will Goldberg get that final match and could it happen under the AEW name?
If AEW does not show interest, it might be time to understand the need to move on.
