Always a bit outspoken, AEW boss Tony Khan blasts a WWE title match and in response to his comments, things get heated online.
Seriously, 2024 is not even 2 weeks old and the wrestling world is on fire.
Jinder Mahal returned to RAW at the Day 1 special show. Mind you, he was part of a massive bait and switch.
We were promised a former world champion. He is, in fact, a former world champion.
Of course, the other part of the teaser noted that it would be someone “not part of the active roster”, which would actually disqualify Jinder.
Again, he was the bait…so we could be even happier when we got The Rock.
But, Mahal was not happy just to be at Day 1. This week on RAW, the former champion laid down a challenge to Seth Rollins, and the champ accepted.
Not everyone was happy about that, however.

One thing some fans liked about AEW when it started? Wins and losses were supposed to mean something.
Funny in a world where the outcomes are predetermined, but still, fine enough.

Well, Khan didn’t think having a winless challenger was good…so he let the entire Twitter/X using world know about it.
Worry less about WWE and more about AEW, I guess?
Responses to Khan’s posts were largely bashing Tony, especially considering (as one pointed out) that his own company basically abandoned their win/loss rankings.
I don’t watch AEW much, so I really don’t know.
Several in WWE chimed in supporting Jinder. And while Tony mentioned Hook…the Monday night challenger had his own response to that.
He simply asked…who exactly is Hook?
The rivalry is good, but watching the owner of the company go on any sort of rant on social media about a match his competitor books is just…not a good look.
Imagine if Vince McMahon, Nick Khan or Triple H had ever, or do ever, share posts critical of who AEW employs or how matches are booked?
It would look bad on WWE, much as it looks bad on AEW here.
Fans know the Mahal title match is filler, and I suspect it will be more of a vehicle to set up a cash-in tease or more.
Enjoy it for what it is, especially as it shows Rollins to be the fighting champion he said he was (taking on all comers).
