The trailer for the upcoming movie “The Iron Claw” has dropped, and it has me asking…could this be the best wrestling movie ever?
Sure, that is hyperbole, and it is based solely off of a trailer just over two minutes long…but watch the trailer and tell me this doesn’t look incredibly promising.
Like, can”t miss good, to the point I have to add a date to my calendar to remember it (December 22nd, for those wondering).
So, now that you’ve watched the trailer…
Could This Be The Best Wrestling Movie Ever?
OK, maybe that was clickbait, to a point, but I really do think this movie looks incredible.
Zac Effron, former teen heart throb, stars in this one, but we also have a few other pretty big names involved.
Like, oh…some guy named Maxwell Jacob Friedman.
As for the movie itself? It is a story about the famous…and tragic…Von Erich brothers.
Cody’s entrance talks about wrestling having more than one “royal family”, and the Von Erich’s would surely be in the running as one of them.
Globally, the highest peak any of the brothers likely reached was Kerry, known to then-WWF fans as the Texas Tornado. He captured the Intercontinental Championship during his stint with the company.
Sadly, the family has been more known for the tragedy than the triumph, something this movie will surely deal with.
The family name was massive, especially in their home state of Texas. That name (and their dad) put pressure on the brothers from an early age, and pressure takes a toll.
Of the five Von Erich brothers, only Kevin survives to this day. Kerry, Chris and Mike all took their own lives, while David died during a wrestling tour of Japan, of what several wrestlers believe was a drug overdose.
