On Saturday, All Elite Wrestling hosted their latest major show-WrestleDream. The card was headlined by Bryan Danielson defending the AEW title against Jon Moxley. That was not the only title defended on the card, however. The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, defended the AEW tag titles against Private Party. And, as you tend to hear during the lead up to an event, some were calling for the Bucks to lose the match-and the titles-to Private Party.

That did not happen

If you were planning on watching the show but had not yet? Sorry, my bad. With that out of the way, the tag team champion brothers did indeed retain their gold. But, in keeping with their heel schtick, they took to social media to rib those thinking that the two AEW executive vice presidents should have dropped the belts.

Now, there’s an in-character view of that, and a general view of that. First, as both Jacksons are heels here, it’s precisely the response you’d expect from the bad guys. Nothing shocking there, just heels being heels. And, the Young Bucks doing what they do and poking fun at those who wanted them to drop the titles.

But the general view? The optics are a bit off here. Because the Young Bucks are also part of that inner circle, both EVPs, it’s a bit of a tricky topic. We all know that professional wrestling is not like a typical athletic contest, with outcomes predetermined. But, their response also happens to read a bit more like some within AEW wanted the brothers to lose (true) and the executives in AEW overruled that call.

Did they? Didn’t they? Does it matter? If their goal was just to get people talking about them, then mission accomplished. After all, until working on this piece, I had lost track of the fact that the Bucks were champions. But, the Young Bucks went into WrestleDream as champions, and the Bucks left the same way. So, should The Young Bucks shave won at Wrestle Dream?
