Since its inception, AEW has produced about four to five pay-per-views (PPV) each year. With that being said a new report notes that as Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD) negotiates a new television deal with the promotion, there is a possibility their PPV schedule could grow.

Report: AEW May Increase Annual Pay-Per-View Events

According to Fightful Select, WBD is proposing to expand the wrestling promotion’s PPV schedule tremendously. In fact, there’s a good chance that they could run a PPV every much, similar to what the WWE currently does.

There’s no confirmation on whether these events would be standalone, or if a streaming deal could be involved between WBD’s streaming service Max. Only time will tell.

It’s important to note that the increase in PPVs is something Warner Bros. Discovery wanted. In addition, nothing has been finalized in terms of numbers.

As with any agreement, the situation could change, and this all depends on how negotiations between WBD and AEW go. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next.

AEW PPV Events, Over The Years

When wrestling company first started in 2019, the promotion had five PPV events, which included Double or Nothing, Fyter Fest, Fight For The Fallen, All Out, and Full Gear. During 2020 and 2021, they downscaled to four, with Revolution, Double or Nothing, All Out, and Full Gear that year.

In 2022, the promotion slightly added to their four signature PPVs by including the Forbidden Door event, collaborating with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). Forbidden Door was also in this year’s line-up.

There are certainly pros to increasing annual PPVs, with one major one being that the in-ring action and storytelling within matches enhance during these high-scale events. Still, it’s hard to properly build up a program, match, or event, at times, when there’s always one lingering around the corner, every four weeks.
