Our latest nutshell features WWE SmackDown results from April 19, 2004 (Season 32, Episode 28), where LA Knight vs AJ Styles battled for a title shot. The winner of that clash earns himself a shot at Cody Rhodes in a couple weeks at Backlash. While that is the biggest match, it is not the only match, as you’d expect.

Backlash of course should be a focal point. Again, it is just a couple weeks away, and the card has a lot of room to fill. On top of that, we could maybe see some new tag titles? After all, Triple H and Adam Pearce provided the RAW title holders with some new gold. Perhaps it will be the same for A-Town Down Under?

And, to be honest, there is that elephant in the room. What will the Bloodline do next? On our last SmackDown, we saw the group add one and lose one. What we don’t know is if Tama Tonga is the only new member, or if he will soon have company. I have to think that Jimmy will eventually respond, but probably not this week.

So with that said, let’s crack open this nutshell and find out our WWE SmackDown results for the week.

Quick Results

AJ Styles defeats LA Knight.

The Street Profits win the #1 contenders fatal four way.

Santos defeats Carlito

Bayley and Naomi ends in a no decision due to interference by Tiffany Stratton.

Best Match of the Night

Going with AJ Styles and LA Knight. This one should have been the main event. That or the Bloodline segment, though it feels like they want it to be big, but not always that big still. Tiffany is a big up and coming talent, and the women’s title is a big deal, but the best match went first.

Worst Match of the Night

Nothing tonight. Check those WWE SmackDown results, we only had a handful.

Crowd Chants of the Night

We want Roman

Star of the Night

Big night for AJ Styles, becoming the number 1 contender. Jade and Bianca look poised to win tag gold. Nice night for the Street Profits, and a huge hat tip to whomever pulled off the new tag belts. RAW’s are nice, but SmackDown’s are far better.

Spot of the Night

Not sure it gets better than what we saw in the fatal four way tag match. Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne with moonsaults off either side of the same turnbuckle is awesome enough. But Montez Ford leaping over the post, splitting them both at the same time was just wicked.

Jobber of the Night

In a most unusual way, Kevin Owens. Sure, he got in a wee bit of offense when he mounted a very brief comeback, but he was generally a living punching bag for the new Bloodline.

Upset of the Night

Heyman is doing a great job coming off upset that the fans want Roman, not Solo. Because he wants Roman too.

But he may not be as upset as Nick Aldis was. Aldis showed Heyman the staged car wreck, informing us that one was Kevin Owens’ car, the other was Tama Tonga’s. And that things on SmackDown get settled in the ring, and Heyman needed to make sure that the Bloodline gets that message.

I have a feeling that Heyman is about to find himself excommunicated.

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night

We got yet another Bo Dallas teaser QR code. Why it lands here is because, well, this time it was in the midst of a Triple H entrance.

We all remember that Roman Reigns at one point told Solo Sikoa that he was the heir apparent. I don’t think any of us imagined that he would elevate himself so quickly. Ironically, Roman gave Cody grief for the suit, and Solo came out tonight pretty well suited up.

Tama Tonga was introduced as Solo’s “MFT”. During the in-ring segment, Tama Tonga heaved a beaten up Kevin Owens down to the ring, bleeding and unable to stand. Mission accomplished,

Botch of the Night

I give this one-barely-to Electra Lopez. She swung Zelina into the barrier and barely connected. Likely safer for Vega, but it did not look great.

Noteworthy Moments of the Night

Not a shock but we got new WWE Tag Team title belts for Grayson Waller and Austin Theory.

Did not expect Solo to suit up and take over the Bloodline, but here we are. Interesting especially given Roman’s disdain for corporate Cody in suits. This saga is getting good.

LOL Moment of the Night

Waller and Theory thought they’d be cute and funny not shaking hands with the boss, but Nick Aldis advised them not to do it again or else. Or else what? Well, he’d make A-Clown Down Under regret it.

Overall Highlights

Love the new tag titles. Best new belts WWE have put out recently, to be honest. These give me hope for the winged eagle belt re-boot that Cody seems to want. My first thought was back to the titles I grew up seeing Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart carry. A bit less color than those, but nice work.

AJ Styles gets Cody after beating LA Knight. Right call, but Knight definitely needs a belt sooner than later. Could he take out Logan Paul?

Tiffy time already? Maybe. I just can’t see her dethroning Bayley, but that’s one way to get her over big fast.

Overall Lowlights

Not sure what I want to complain about. I had stuff here, but then the editor crashed and it was lost, so I guess that’s my new lowlight of the night.

After the Final Bell

For a show running with a bunch of talent on the Euro tour? This was a good show. With the draft beginning next week, it is going to be a big one next week. And the Bloodline saga, without the belt? I think it getting the title out of the way allows things to breathe and opens up possibilities, and I am here for it. Another week and change and these WWE SmackDown results can look a lot different thanks to the draft.
