He’s long been a fan favorite for his work in NXT, but now a familiar name, William Regal returns to the WWE roster page, and it could the start of something.

William Regal returned to WWE television just a few months ago. He had previously returned to the company, but only in an off-air capacity. The lack of television use was agreed to by Regal and his former AEW boss, Tony Khan. Khan released Regal upon his request, as the former NXT general manager wanted to go back to Orlando and help his son develop.

His son, as has been officially revealed, is current Heritage Cup champion Charlie Dempsey. Regal made his NXT on-air live return a couple weeks back to come face to face with his son as he gloated over his cup win.

The father and son had a bit of a tense exchange. Perhaps a bit of tough love. Dempsey told his father that he could defend the cup better than Regal ever could.

And now, just a little after that interesting exchange? Regal has now been returned to WWE’s active roster page, as per TJWrestling.

It surely does sound like something could be brewing in NXT involving father and son. We know that William Regal won’t be getting back into the GM chair. He helped introduce Ava as our current black and gold on air boss. It’s hard to see Regal fighting Dempsey, but it would certainly seem like WWE has bigger plans for the legendary Superstar.

I have to think this is part of the larger plan for young Charlie Dempsey. After all, it was his interest in helping his son develop that led him back to WWE and NXT. The young Superstar has already had a busy 2024. He was first being sent to Japan and then claiming the cup from Noam Dar. I can’t wait to see what could be next.
