Matthews and Ripley are a real-life couple, in case that news had escaped you. The pair met while both worked in WWE, and are engaged to be married. Yep, sorry folks. Mami isn’t really for Dom (who also recently got married to his own real-life love interest). Over the weekend, Ripley defended her title in a triple threat match in Springfield, IL.

She was battling Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, and ultimately the champ successfully defended her gold, pinning Jax. It was not the pin that got all the attention, however. Rather, it was a move Ripley delivered to Jax that got everyone talking. Nia Jax isn’t a part of the Bloodline program (yet), but in real life, she has connections to that family. Her new finisher, the Annihilator, is an homage to Yokozuna’s Bonsai Drop. Yes, Nia Jax is a relative of the late WWF Champion. She’s also connected to Rikishi, master of the stink face.

And at that house show, Rhea Ripley delivered a stink face of her own to Jax prior to pinning the imposing Superstar.

While plenty of fans may not have minded taking the move from Rhea, her fiancee sent them all away jealous with this zinger.

There’s a few bits to get into here, all good stuff. While it isn’t the Attitude Era, it may as well be a Renaissance Era. WWE presumably allowing a top Superstar-a female, at that-to bare cheeks and deliver a move made famous in a bygone era is, I think, notable. WWE seemingly shied away from certain parts of it’s past, but no more. It may be giving some adult fans a bit of nostalgia, but when it brings in eyeballs, it’s good business. Plus, it gets things on social media buzzing, and we all know how important that is.
