Call it a “Romeo & Juliet” love story with a happy ending! AEW star Buddy Matthews and WWE ’s Rhea Ripley recently announced their engagement on social media.
WWE Star & AEW Star Headed For Wedded Bliss
Ripley hopped on Instagram to tell the world the good news by sharing a photo of her kissing Buddy’s cheek, overlooking a beach view. She also showed off a beautiful ring on her finger.
Under the IG photo, Rhea wrote, “1000x YES! Pure F*****g happiness!” Of course, many wrestling colleagues took the opportunity to congratulate the newly engaged couple, including Alexa Bliss, Bayley, Trinity Fatu, Nikki Garcia (Bella), and Renee Paquette just to name a few.
Meanwhile, Buddy Matthews also posted a photo on Instagram of him and his love (in and around the same time as Rhea’s engagement post), with the two, on the beach, sitting in a chair together. The caption read, “My sunshine in the Sunshine”.
While Ripley has an onscreen relationship with fellow Judgment Day stablemate, Dominik Mysterio, most fans know about her relationship with Buddy. The two Australians have been dating since 2022.
Rhea Ripley & Buddy Matthews = Golden Wrestling Couple
Both wrestling stars currently hold gold in their respective companies. Matthews is a World Trios Champion, along with his fellow House of Black faction mates, Malakai Black and Brody King.
The threesome won the titles this past March during AEW’s Revolution. Meanwhile, Ripley a Women’s Champion, snagging her gold during this past WrestleMania 39, defeating The Queen, Charlotte Flair.
Ripley started out working the indies circuit in 2013 and eventually made her way to the WWE in 2017. She’s been riding a very high wave in the company this year, as she and Judgement Day dominate storylines.
While Buddy started with Vince McMahon’s company in 2013, but he was released in 2021, due to budget cuts. It didn’t take long for him to enter AEW, and he too, is doing well in that promotion.
