WWE has been trying for years to put together Roman Reigns vs The Rock. It looked doubtful after Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble, but then SmackDown aired.
The episode closed with Rhodes hinting at going after Reigns at WrestleMania. Instead, he brought The Rock out.
While WWE is yet to confirm, The Rock vs Roman Reigns on night two of WrestleMania 40 looks set. As for Rhodes, he reignited his feud with Seth Rollins.
According to PWInsider, The Rock joining the TKO Board played a huge factor.
“Others believe that Rock pushed for the move and likely would have no matter what, given his massive $30 million stock payday is, in part, contingent on him hitting certain milestones,” the report stated.
“Sources familiar with the situation believe one of those milestones was Johnson returning to the ring this year and that Johnson pushed for the match to happen sooner than later with the idea he felt Reigns vs. The Rock was the far bigger attraction for the company.”
Remember, CM Punk was injured during the Royal Rumble. Therefore, his removal affected other parts of the card.
Also, the accusations revolving around Brock Lesnar and Vince McMahon have put WWE in a bad spot. They are trying to move beyond what people recently learned, while preparing for WrestleMania at the same time.
PWInsider continued how Rhodes would win the World Heavyweight Championship against Rollins. Then, Cody faces the winner of The Rock and Reigns at SummerSlam.
If that happens, it would see WWE unifying the belts. The huge takeaways are The Rock is likely wrestling in what could be his final match and Rhodes is unable to finish his story.
