On RAW, CM Punk confirmed an injury suffered during the Royal Rumble Match and how he’ll miss WWE WrestleMania 40 as he heads to surgery.
CM Punk Confirms Injury, Will Miss WrestleMania 40
Survivor Series was supposed to be a fresh start for CM Punk. After a decade away, he was returning to WWE.
To say fans were surprised is an understatement. His surprise return might be one of the loudest pops in pro wrestling history.
He returned with one major goal: to main event WrestleMania.
He entered the Royal Rumble and lasted until the final two. Cody Rhodes won and has made it clear he is challenge Roman Reigns in a rematch form last year.
With Punk and Seth Rollins teasing a match for the last two months, that seemed the goal. A win inside the Elimination Chamber would grant Punk what he wanted.
Remember, Seth Rollins has a bad knee as he tries to battle through the pain to make WrestleMania 40. The loss of both would be a major blow to the card.
We do not exactly when, but Punk was injured. He confirmed on tonight’s RAW how he tore his right tricep.
With surgery and rehab, he is looking at probably four to six months off. Therefore, a SummerSlam return or slightly later in the WWE schedule could be his target date.
Before rejoining WWE in November, he spent about two years in AEW. That run was riddled with similar injuries and backstage incidents.
AEW had to change direction several times due to the injuries and suspensions. Those are some major injuries in a small window, but a return is not out of the question.
Punk only wrestled twice for WWE since making his decade long return. Outside of the Royal Rumble, he defeated Dominik Mysterio at a live event in late 2023.
So, after learning CM Punk will miss WrestleMania 40 due to injury, should he contemplate retirement?
