Rey Mysterio walked into WWE Crown Jewel as United States Champion, but lost it to Logan Paul. At the same time, Mysterio made history.
Rey Mysterio Makes History At Crown Jewel 2023
WWE returned to Saudi Arabia yesterday as part of the lucrative deal the two sides have. Overall, Crown Jewel was average with little newsworthy content coming out.
There were a few title matches, with the United States Championship changing hands. Logan Paul, with the assistance of brass knuckles, captured the title from Rey Mysterio.
It makes Logan’s first singles title after only wrestling a few times for WWE. On the flip side, Mysterio also made history.
The WWE Stats & Info account noted how Mysterio is the only person to have their United States Championship reign begin and end outside of the United States. It is a statistic that began in 1975 and lasted until late 2023.
Rey won the in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, against Austin Theory in August during an episode of SmackDown. He dropped the same title at Crown Jewel from Saudi Arabia.
The match featured a good amount of outside interference from friends of Logan. To counter, Santos Escobar was there for his fellow LWO member.
Many think we are going to see Santos turn heel and work opposite Mysterio. No clue if the LWO stable will be dropped since they bring in lots of money on the merchandise side.
For Logan, there was talk of him working with Kevin Owens at some point. Owens likes to partake in massive bumps and Logan Paul does not seem to mind either, which could create a few highlight-reel moments.
Even if fans do not like Logan Paul, he brings in plenty of social media followers. I think no matter what, fans will always boo the Disney star turned pro wrestler.
So, what happens now with Rey Mysterio, Logan Paul and the United States Championship?
