AEW is always looking towards the future, which will include Toni Storm and Mariah May working together.
Latest On Toni Storm And Mariah May Program
There have always been people criticizing AEW’s women’s division. And, it feels like the promotion is not making the necessary changes.
In particular, we have seen the title change hands too frequently as of late. The past twelve months has seen five title reigns by four different women.
Jamie Hayter was injured, yet she continued to wrestle before quickly dropping the belt to Toni Storm. Hikaru Shida and Saraya have also been in possession of the same title this year.
Outside of Hayter, no reign has made it past double digits. In fact, the recent title holders have held the gold less than anyone else in the company’s history.
AEW Teases A Huge Signing
To bolster the roster, they signed Mariah May. She is best know for his time in STARDOM and even received an invitation from WWE.
In her debut, Mariah May and Toni Storm was teased. Basically, May is acting like an obsessed fan of the current No. 1 contender.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer went over the idea for both women.
“The idea of this Mariah program is to get Mariah to be a top star,” said Meltzer. “I mean, it’s not like they’re bringing her in just to be a face like Willow Nightingale.”
“Look, Toni should win the championship [from Hikaru Shida] and I don’t know how long she will hold it. But the idea is to get Mariah and Toni as a top feud in the women’s division.”
Right now, Storm is one of the most popular wrestlers around. Her new “timeless” gimmick has been getting rave reviews.
If they go with May and Storm, it could look similar to when Trish Status and Mickie James worked together about two decades ago in WWE.
First, we need to get through Full Gear, where Toni challenges for the title. The betting odds currently favor a new champion ar the pay per view, but we will have to see.
So, is Storm against May the right call to elevate the division?
