According to a report, the WWE has some interesting plans for the 2023 Survivor Series premium live event (PLE). More details, below.
WWE Plans To Add Unique Match
As per Fightful Select, the company is considering a WarGames match at this year’s Survivor Series. The event takes place on Saturday, November 25th at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
If done, it would be the second time a WarGames bout has taken place on the main roster, with the first being last year at the 2022 Survivor Series in Boston. The report notes that only a men’s match is being talked about currently.
John Cena Has An Expiration Date
In fact, it sounds like the Judgement Day stable is being mentioned as a potential team to be involved. The report reveals that no plans are set in stone.
The History Of WarGames & WWE
This unique match was created in 1987 by the late and great Dusty Rhodes when he was a booker for Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP) and was originally showcased in NWA and WCW. Triple H ushered in the bout to NXT, with the first one taking place during TakeOver: WarGames in Houston, Texas in November 2017.
New Bloodline Member Teased?
It became an annual thing with NXT until 2021. Last year the company held both the first Women’s and Men’s WarGames matches on the main roster during the 2022 Survivor Series.
As most fans know, the match pits two teams of four to five wrestlers (or more) as they are locked in a steel cage, encompassing two rings. The matches within NXT and the Survivor Series have no roof over the cage, and pinfalls act as wins; not the original way the bout was conducted in the early days.
AEW produced its own version of this bout in 2021, known as “Blood and Guts”. This is based on the first JCP version of the match, which has a roof and calls for no pinfalls as wins.
