CM Punk knows how to garner attention and after his AEW termination, people think a return to WWE is immediate. And, there could be some truth to that rumor.
CM Punk WWE Return Rumors Intensify
CM Punk will go down as one of the most popular and also a controversial wrestler. Wherever he goes, fans follow and there are always great backstage stories.
After leaving WWE, Punk left the business for about seven years. Eventually, AEW was able to lure him in.
His presence did see AEW score big TV numbers and sell a bunch of tickets.
At the same time, there were a good amount of backstage problems with Punk and other talent.
In September of last year, Punk regained the AEW World Championship. He famously took shots at The Elite during the post-show press conference, which resulted in a legit brawl.
Several names were suspended, including Punk. Everyone returned, with Punk being the last due to suffering an injury his bout with Jon Moxley.
AEW introduced Collision and brought Punk as the main attraction for that show. Once again, Punk got into an altercation.
This time, it took place as the main card for All In was beginning. Jack Perry and Punk got into a physical confrontation.
It involved Perry making remarks minute earlier about using real glass for a spot. Punk did not like the idea months ago and now Perry was responding.
Perry remains suspended and Khan fired Punk days later, citing concerns for his safety.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that there could be some truth to the rumors that CM Punk is on his way back to WWE.
“There have been rumors that it’s happening,” the report stated. “But, those in WWE have only said that no deal is completed and those close to Punk have told us that it is his intention to return and the two sides are in talks.”
“One would expect if such a deal is made that Survivor Series weekend in Chicago would be the time to do the surprise return.”
If WWE can sign Punk, it would be a huge deal. The big question could be if the WWE locker room will welcome Punk back.
So, will CM Punk return to WWE? And, if he does, is Survivor Series the ideal time?
