UPDATE: There are now conflicting reports if the injury was legit.

If you were watching Sunday’s AEW show, you may have noticed a big change during a WrestleDream match.

Specifically, this one happened during the four team battle for a new #1 contender for the AEW tag titles.

The match saw the Young Bucks, Lucha Bros, the Gunns and a team of HOOK and Orange Cassidy do battle.

One half of one of these teams did not manage to finish the fight.

Rey Fenix had only been cleared to perform just before Sunday’s big show…and his luck did not last.

Fenix was involved in a shocking match on Dynamite a couple weeks back, where Jon Moxley lost his recently won International Championship and suffered an injury to boot.

What was kind of lost in all of that? Fenix finished that match banged up too.

While he was cleared ahead of WrestleDream, he was unable to finish the match.

As the four teams went at it, fans could see Rey Fenix helped to the back.

While we’ve seen plenty of matches in recent memory where someone was helped to the back only to make a triumphant return…this was not one of those times.

Snap reaction…you can’t help but wonder if Fenix was cleared too soon (or, if this was truly rotten luck and a completely separate injury).

Now we have to wait and see how bad the injury might be, and what it means for plans involving Fenix both short and long term.

In the present, we don’t know if the Fenix injury altered the #1 contenders match-that was won by the Young Bucks.

Depending on the severity of the injury, it remains to be seen if Fenix might be dropping the gold soon.
