For the moment, Jon Moxley will not be competing inside a wrestling ring. While AEW taped more content for Grand Slam, Moxley suffered an apparent concussion.

It took place as he was defending the International Championship against Rey Fenix. During the match, Moxley had the finish rushed after being hurt.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted how Jon Moxley must pass a concussion protocol before returning to AEW.

“As with all concussions, his return is based on passing protocol tests,” the report stated. “It could be a week and it could be much longer.”

“He noted that because he wasn’t knocked out and could still wrestle, Fenix and Knox didn’t realize he was hurt, nor did the doctor. In hindsight, because of the risk of a second concussion so shortly after the first, the best thing should have been to stop the match.”

“But, since he was working seemingly fine, nobody knew that. Actually, when Moxley realized he was messed up, he called right then for the finish.”

The timing is certainly not great. Moxley just ended Orange Cassidy’s historic run with the belt.

Moxley vs. Fenix already took place earlier in the week. Hopefully, Moxley will be cleared soon but it is hard to judge when it pertains to concussions.

Tony Khan also took some heat for his reaction. Moxley was sent to the hospital and Khan remained at Dynamite, where he danced for the live crowd.

Certainly, a questionable moment by Khan. It keeps that pattern of odd choices going as the promotion seems to have lost any momentum they had in the early years.
