“Droz” Darren Drozdov Is Dead At 54 Years Old

Darren Drozdov, who wrestling fans also know as ‘Droz’, has sadly passed away. He turned 54 years old earlier in the year. As of now, no cause of death has been released.

He is best known for stints in the NFL and WWE. For three years, he played for the NFL’s New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos. He would garner some attention after puking on a football during a live game.

From 1997 to 1998, Darren Drozdov spent time in ECW. By 1998, he was already part of WWE. In the popular documentary Beyond the Mat, we got to see him speak with Vince McMahon. The scene saw Drozdov unable to yack, while Vince was yelling play by play beside him.

In WWE, Droz was mostly a mid-card level wrestler. He was known for his tattoos and many piercings. This resulted in a gimmick and briefly a stable.

He would then switch over to working with the Legion of Doom. He was considered a “new member,” but the angle never got over with fans. On particular spot, that many saw as a controversial moment, basically alleged that Drozdov pushed Hawk off from the top of the Titantron.

Then, on October 5, 1999, Drozdov’s pro wrestling career came to an end during a match with D’Lo Brown. Drozdov landed on his head, thus broking two vertebrae in his neck. As a result, he was paralyzed.

With his in-ring career done, he did spent time as columnist on WWE’s website.
