WrestleMania 40 was a huge week for WWE as they looked towards the future. Roman Reigns dropped the belt to Cody Rhodes to close the massive weekend. Also, during that time, Seth Rollins lost in the tag team main event of night 1 and then dropped the World Heavyweight Championship to Drew McIntyre. The title run for McIntyre lasted about five minutes as CM Punk got involved and led Damian Priest to successfully cash-in his Money in the Bank contract.
After all this, Rollins took time-off as he needed surgery on his knee. He made a surprise return and then unsuccessfully challenged Priest for the title. Yet again, Punk was a major factor. Now, for SummerSlam, WrestleVotes has a major update on Rollins. “Source states the current plans have Seth Rollins as the special guest referee for the CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre SummerSlam match. Creative is proceeding under the assumption that Punk will be ready for action, with the anticipated clearance date set for the Monday beforehand, 7/29.”
WWE Has Options With Seth Rollins For SummerSlam
Clearly, WWE is taking a major risk with Punk still not cleared after surgery in January. If he is unable to wrestle, the company might be able to quickly make McIntyre vs Rollins. With Rollins having issues with both men, there are a few directions WWE could head. Do look for these three to work together well into the fall months.
For the time, WWE should keep any belt away from Rollins as he is over without gold. At some point, McIntyre deserves a real title reign and Punk just wants to close WrestleMania. There are plenty of scenarios for everyone involved. So, what do you think of the idea for Seth Rollins to serve as a referee at WWE SummerSlam?
