A new report reveals that AEW veteran Penta El Zero Miedo could hit the free agent market in a few months, and he has fans in the WWE front office.
Even before he became a household name in AEW, Penta El Zero Miedo — formerly Pentagon Jr. — was a star in Mexico for AAA and drew attention on the independent circuit from his work in Lucha Underground and TNA. He is one of the best high flyers in the industry today and has a look that makes him very unique and marketable.
That apparently has landed him on the radar of the WWE talent relations department. On Friday, the popular Spanish-language wrestling outlet Lucha Libre Online reported that “Pentagón Jr’s contract with AEW is scheduled to expire between August or September” of this year. They also added that “There is interest on the part of WWE in his services.”
The outlet did not reveal if the contract of his brother Rey Fenix is expected to expire around the same time.
Over the last few months, WWE has signed AEW alumni Jade Cargill, Brian Pillman Jr., and most recently Ethan Page. The latter two went straight to their developmental league NXT. However, considering his huge amount of experience and upside in merchandise sales, if he jumped to WWE Penta El Zero Miedo would likely debut on the main roster.
The company has been looking for a long time to find the heir apparent to lucha legend Rey Mysterio. They previously failed at trying to make Sin Cara, AKA Mistico, the next Mysterio and are currently pushing Dragon Lee as the next great Mexican high flyer. However, Penta has the talent to give them the new-age version of Mysterio they have been looking for.
