Some fresh details have emerged on the ongoing drama between WWE Smackdown’s two biggest female stars, Tiffany Stratton and Charlotte Flair.
For many long-time fans, a clash between Stratton and Flair was viewed as a dream match. The daughter of wrestling icon Ric Flair has put together a Hall-of-Fame-worthy run in WWE over the last decade. During her impressive run in NXT, Stratton reminded many fans of Flair due to her impressive athleticism and talent as a heel.
That is why the WWE universe was excited when it became clear that Stratton and Flair were on a collision course for the WWE Women’s title at WrestleMania 41. However, as the story has played out, there have been some awkward moments that made fans wonder if there were chemistry issues between the two. The first came a few weeks ago when Flair seemed to step on Stratton’s words during a backstage debate.
Then, last week, things went to a very real level when Stratton took some personal shots at Flair, including a mention of her three failed marriages. Many are wondering if the pair really don’t like each other and when the problems started. On Monday, Wrestling Observer reporter Dave Meltzer answered some of those questions.
Issues between Tiffany Stratton and Charlotte Flair began two weeks ago
“There have been problems between the two for about two weeks,” Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio [h/t Wrestling News]. “So people knew about it… They went out there, and they just went off the rails. It was like Charlotte is getting more of the blame, and probably deservedly so, but they both are getting blamed for it.”
Meltzer claimed sources informed him that Flair allegedly went off-script during their face-to-face on last week’s Smackdown. That decision frustrated Stratton and was why she took very strong digs at her WrestleMania 41 opponent as “retaliation.”
Her final “woo” and rolling out of the ring reportedly was to prevent the promo battle from escalating any further. The word is that there doesn’t seem to be any blowback backstage for Stratton’s personal digs.
