New Rumor Gives Huge Update On Goldberg’s WWE Retirement Match And It Seems Set For This Date

A new report suggests that Bill Goldberg is officially in camp for his WWE retirement match in a few months.

Goldberg has had a weird relationship with WWE. After becoming a household name during an incomparable run in WCW, he did not switch sides when the company purchased its greatest rival in 2001. He waited two years, and his one-year stint was not what many fans had hoped for.

However, he returned in 2016 as a part-timer in a much more memorable stint that featured a highly entertaining feud with Brock Lesnar and even beating the “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt to win the WWE Universal Championship. Yet, his final match — a pandemic WrestleMania loss to Braun Strowman — was not what he envisioned for his pro wrestling send-off.

That is why the company sowed seeds for a retirement match in the fall, which Goldberg has confirmed. Well, a new report may point to a timeline for his last match.

Bill Goldberg is in camp for the WWE retirement match

In a new installment of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, veteran reporter Dave Meltzer revealed that Bill Goldberg has officially started training for his retirement match. He is allegedly working with Kevin Von Erich’s son (Ross, Marshall, and Kevin) and K-1 kickboxing legend Tyrone Spong.

The WWE and WCW legend recently underwent stem cell treatment for his shoulder and has raved about the results before he began his return to the ring. The 58-year-old will need a lot of time to slowly get himself in the necessary shape for his final match while also trying to avoid injury.

Three to four months makes sense, which would seem to put him on track for a return at Summerslam in August. WrestleMania would be a more fitting place for Goldberg’s retirement match. However, this year’s Summerslam will be a two-night event in MetLife Stadium, and the company needs big matches to lure more fans to the event in New Jersey on Aug. 2 and 3.
