The news has created a huge amount of speculation about who the 16-time world champion could compete against during his limited amount of dates. Especially when it comes to tentpole premium live events like the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania.

Earlier this week, new reports suggested none other than social media superstar Logan Paul was in serious consideration to be Cena’s opponent at WrestleMania. However, a follow-up story claims there are some backstage pushing back against the idea.

“Sources indicate recent rumors of Logan Paul vs. John Cena at WrestleMania have, at the very least, been discussed,” Wrestle Votes wrote on X. “However, the idea has been met with resounding disapproval from several within creative. The general feeling is that this shouldn’t be Cena’s final WrestleMania match.”

On paper, a potential Cena vs. Paul match at the showcase of the immortals could have huge mainstream appeal. And it is a bout the WWE founder Vince McMahon would have certainly wanted. However, with McMahon long gone, there are different influential figures backstage.

And it is understandable if they feel one of the greatest performers of all time should get an equally prestigious opponent for his final Mania match.
