A new rumor claims that a former TNA Wrestling executive shot down an idea for champion Joe Hendry to have a storyline on WWE Raw.
Being on WWE’s roster is the easiest route to fame and fortune in professional wrestling. However, over the last decade, we have seen many stars turn themselves into household names among wrestling fans outside the company. Performers like Cody Rhodes, the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Matt Cardona, and Drew McIntyre.
The most recent performer who has followed that mold is TNA star Joe Hendry. The Scottish star has turned himself into a notable name in the industry through his mastery of social media and catchy songs. It was why WWE wanted to work with him by way of their ongoing partnership with his employer, TNA.
He has made several appearances in NXT and was an entrant in the 2025 Royal Rumble. However, a new report claims the company wanted him to have more of a frequent role on Monday Night Raw last year.
TNA exec scrapped plans for a Joe Hendry and Miz feud on WWE Raw
Over the weekend, Fightful Select revealed that WWE pitched the idea of having Hendry make several main roster appearances for a feud with future Hall of Famer The Miz. But then-executive producer Ariel Shnerer reportedly shot down the idea.
His main concern was that the rivalry might include Hendry taking a loss. He was not interested in his most popular performer and eventual TNA champion doing the honors for another WWE talent.
Fightful added that WWE “sent Ethan Page over [to TNA] for what we’re told is a very similar piece of creative to what would have been planned.” Page will compete for the TNA title later this month at Rebellion against Joe Hendry and Frankie Kazarian.
Shnerer was among the staff let go earlier this year by new Anthem (TNA’s parent company) president Carlos Silva.
