The brothers will forever be linked to the company, and WWE is still in talks with Matt and Jeff Hardy about a return.

While some Superstars are lifers, others are not. Some WWE Superstars are most known for their time within the company, but they broke in elsewhere (names like The Undertaker and Triple H, to name just a small few). Many who worked some of their best matches for WWE also happened to bounce around a bit. Hulk Hogan was synonymous with WWE for a long time, but he’s also worked with WCW and TNA. And, in that regard, Matt and Jeff Hardy are no different.
The dynamic tag team have had a roller coaster relationship with the company. Long time fan favorites, they weren’t always able to stay with the Stamford promotion. Most recently, Matt exited WWE to take a shot in AEW. Jeff, because of injury time, was “stuck” in WWE and did what he needed to do in order to get himself released. Of course, he eventually landed in AEW too. But their time in the younger promotion was basically a disappointment. One of the best tag teams in wrestling history didn’t manage to hold tag gold during their run, and their contracts have both since expired.

Now both free agents, we’ve seen them both back in TNA. But, once Matt arrived, he was quick to clarify that he (and later Jeff too) had not signed any sort of deal to be exclusively TNA performers. We had heard that WWE remained interested in the team. At times, some have wondered if they could show up in NXT as part of the ongoing NXT-TNA relationship.

It was confirmed that Matt and Jeff worked with WWE around SummerSlam, recording material for an unspecified project. Such activity does nothing but fuel return speculation, of course. In a recent podcast, Matt noted that he and Jeff were happy in TNA currently (I mean, did you see their Joe Hendry entrance?!), but also commented that they remain in talks with WWE. We know that the brothers have admitted to wanting to retire with WWE, so any conversations make you wonder. So, do you want to see Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy after a final run in WWE?
