Although “Stone Cold” Steve Austin believes he can still go into the ring and “whip some ass,” he confirmed he has no intention of having one more match in WWE.
Three years ago, Steve Austin surprised the WWE universe when he took part in his first match in 20 years when he obliged Kevin Owens in a “fight” at WrestleMania 38. The match was better than some expected and led to an unending narrative of whether he could come back for one more bout. Well, much to the chagrin of longtime fans, “Stone Cold” won’t wrestle ever again.
“You go back and you watch these guys and the gals in the ring, in the WWE, and you think, ‘Hey, man, I could have given Kevin Owens a little bit more than what I had,” Austin said on “The Pat McAfee Show” Friday. “And sometimes you think about it. But hey, man, I think the time right now for the people in the ring is for the younger generation. That’s for the young men and women who are out there on the road. I’ll leave it to them.
“The business has grown to something that I never would have imagined. Don’t get wrong, I can still whip some ass,” he said. “But I’m not looking to get back in the ring at any time in the future because these young cats need something to shoot for. Stone Cold, don’t need to beat nobody’s ass anymore. And that’s the bottom line, because I said so.”
The greatest saying in professional wrestling is, “Never say never.” Because countless performers over the years have come out of retirement — sometimes multiple times — for “one more match.” Wrestling icon Ric Flair had a match three years ago at 73 years old, and is open to another. However, he is an anomaly.
Steve Austin has had a ton of surgeries during his life, including two major procedures to his spine. At 60 years old, when he says he is done, he probably means it.
