Van Dam was recently shown in the crowd on SmackDown, as the company seems to be boosting it’s alumni presence on key shows. In recent efforts, we’ve seen names like DDP and Goldberg, to name just a few. Legends deals are fairly common for WWE talents following their in-ring careers winding down. It’s one way for the company to help ensure we don’t see their Superstars in other promotions. Sometimes it doesn’t work, but it mostly does.

Rob Van Dam is one of those who’s had chances elsewhere. He has worked-fairly recently-with All Elite Wrestling. In fact, his appearance with AEW was said to have cost him some level of WWE work around WrestleMania weekend. That made some sense, considering RVD was a big star for ECW, and with ECW based in Philadelphia, host of WrestleMania 40, the company wanted to exploit it. With that all being said, whatever bridges he might have seemed to burn? Van Dam was still there for Paul Heyman’s Hall of Fame induction. That he was there and acknowledged on television told me things had been, or were being, patched up.

And now, on a recent podcast interview, RVD confirms he has signed a WWE Legends deal. It is worth noting that most WWE Legends deals do allow the talents to do work outside of WWE. I highly doubt Van Dam’s deal includes language that will permit him to rekindle his working relationship with AEW any time soon, however.

What would be nice, but unclear on how likely? RVD getting a chance to do something with currently former WWE Superstar Matt Riddle. The two seem to have a great deal in common, and I feel like there could be some fun program there to be had. Of course, that would require WWE to bring Riddle back. That could happen, but it has not happened yet.
