WWE Superstar Roman Reigns Lands First Major Film Role As Legendary ‘Street Fighter’ Villain

WWE superstar Roman Reigns just took a huge step toward a future film career by landing a key role in the “Street Fighter” reboot.

With Reigns’ current WWE contract ending next year, there have been rumblings that he could make the same jump his cousin Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made two decades ago to Hollywood. Well, on Wednesday, industry insider Jeff Sneider revealed the “Original Tribal Chief” has landed the role of Akuma in the forthcoming “Street Fighter” film.

Casting rumors have been swirling for weeks linking different actors to the starring roles of Ken and Ryu. Well, the man who trained the two characters and has become one of the popular video game’s top bad guys will be played by one of WWE’s best.

The film will be based on the massive video game series that originally started as an arcade offering in 1987. It has spawned countless sequels on various platforms and two major motion pictures. Including the 1994 cult classic (for all the wrong reasons) that starred action movie legend Jean-Claude Van Damme.

There has been a lot of news in recent weeks when it comes to WWE talent and Hollywood. One half of the women’s tag team champions, Liv Morgan, just wrapped filming on the new film “Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo.” There have also been reports that multi-time WWE champion Drew McIntyre had landed a notable role in an upcoming film.

The new “Street Fighter” is set to release next year. So production could start soon. Meaning Roman Reigns’ availability could be limited in the coming months.
