John Cena Sr. Says Cody Rhodes Not The Best In WWE, Hoping Son Faces Different Champ At WrestleMania 41

John Cena’s father John Sr. has a lot of respect for WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. However, he does not believe he is the best performer in the company right now, and he is hoping for a different foe for his son at his final WrestleMania.

On the first edition of Monday Night Raw in the new Netflix era, we got the kick-off of the highly anticipated John Cena retirement tour. Instead of having a final match, the future WWE Hall-of-Famer will use all of 2025 to say goodbye to his legion of fans.

And the next stop on the tour is expected to be the 2025 Royal Rumble. Where Cena hopes to win the men’s Rumble match and go on to WrestleMania 41 to attempt to be the first 17-time world champion in wrestling history. For the last few weeks, there have been rumors that the “Dr. of Thuganmics” could face Cody Rhodes at the showcase of the immortals.

However, Cena’s father wants his son to face “the best of the best” at his last WrestleMania. And he does not believe that is Rhdoes.

“I think that right now, and nothing against Cody Rhodes. I have nothing but good words for Cody. But I just think that right now Gunther is at the peak of his career,” Cena Sr. said on Sportskeeda’s “Wrestle Binge” podcast. “He’s the best of the best, and that’s not taking anything away from Cody. Because certainly down the road I’d love to see Rhodes against Gunther. Winner takes both.

“Gunther vs. Cena would be the match, and I think that’s the person he should face.”

That may surprise many WWE fans. But that just shows how much respect the World Heavyweight Champion garnered among the fan base in a short amount of time. There have been different rumors about Gunther’s opponent for WrestleMania 41, including former United States champion Logan Paul.
