Gunther singing? In a special moment in his hometown, “The Ring General” broke character at a live event this weekend.
CM Punk and Gunther tore the house down in a match on the WWE Road to WrestleMania event in Vienna, Austria, this weekend. The World Heavyweight Championship was on the line. Unsurprisingly, the hometown hero defended his title.

The company has hit big cities like Barcelona, Dortmund, Brussels, and Glasgow. On the tour, and most recently in Vienna. The main event was the second match between Punk and Gunther on this tour. Their first in Belfast ended in a double count-out, so the fans were hungry for a finish.
They got it this weekend in Vienna. Gunther won in the rematch and retained his World Heavyweight Championship. After a very hard-fought battle, Punk took the microphone to speak to the audience, praising both his opponent and the people of Vienna.

“After sharing the ring with The Ring General Gunther in a cage, I know that I’m never going to forget Vienna,’ he said. “This man is a champion for a reason, he represents championship-calibre people, hard-working, blue-collar, salt of the earth, Vienna pride. Congratulations champ. I will see you down the line. And now, he’s going to sing some folk songs with you people.”
Then, in a rare and unexpected move, Gunther actually got into the spirit of things and led the Vienna crowd in an Austrian folk song. The impromptu sing-along gave us a glimpse of the World Heavyweight Champion’s fun side and ended the night on a high.
WWE’s Road to WrestleMania tour ends with Monday Night Raw in London on April 1.
