Former WWE Star Reveals New Details On John Cena Burying Rising Talents Back In 2010

John Cena rose to the top of the WWE mountain as the company’s franchise player. However, a former WWE star gave his insight on long-time rumors of him burying talent during the height of his powers.

The 16-time WWE Champion has been accused of pushing himself at the expense of other talents for years. This came after former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon handpicked him to be the golden goose of the company. Years after such an incident, a former WWE star brought up a past incident involving Cena and some of his former faction members.

In a recent interview with Kenny McIntosh of Inside The Ropes Magazine, former WWE Tag Team Champion Heath Slater reflected on the infamous Team Cena vs Team Nexus match at the 2010 SummerSlam event. Slater revealed that Team Nexus was originally supposed to win. However, before the show, the Doctor of Thuganomics threw his weight around and changed plans.

Heath Slater details how John Cena cut the legs out of Nexus at a pivotal moment

“Literally, it was like an hour after doors opened, maybe, everything got changed. We’re not winning anymore, we’re losing,” Slater recalled. “And we’re all just like, that makes no sense. Why would we [lose]? You would think they would let us have WWE in jeopardy, move on. Here comes ‘Mania. Get your supergroup, your Avengers, have them come in and beat us, as easy as that… That took the wind out of our sails.”

Slater claimed that he heard John Cena wanted to push himself. His teammates in the match, Edge and Chris Jericho, put the match together for Nexus to go over. But Cena did not like the finish and changed it.

“There was Cena pretty much taking to bat for himself. And, next thing you knew, everything got changed,” Slater said. “Edge and Jericho were the ones that put the whole match together, made it make sense, and it was good. Then Cena didn’t like it, is the story I’ve heard. He didn’t like it, so he wanted to change it. Edge and Chris went to bat for us. They were all for it. Then it got switched, and Jericho and Edge were pissed.”

Cena recently cut a scratching heel promo on RAW about accusations of burying talent. He claimed that he does not bury talent; he is “talent.”
