A lot can change between now and then, but we have an early idea on Cody Rhodes WrestleMania 41 plans.

We all know that it is a long way until WrestleMania 41. But, we also know that WWE is always throwing ideas together. Long term story-telling is indeed a thing, more now than ever before. So while we haven’t even started talking about the Road to WrestleMania, there have apparently been some talks by WWE officials about Cody Rhodes and his plans for WrestleMania 41.

And for anyone who watched all that transpired on the path to WrestleMania 40 earlier this year, his currently planned opponent isn’t going to be shocking. As much as Cody Rhodes is pushing for a third match between he and Roman Reigns, that does not seem to be in the cards for Las Vegas. Rather, barring a change (which absolutely can happen, as we all know), right now plans have Cody Rhodes and The Rock locking horns. Such a match would, of course, be built off of their RAW-after-WrestleMania interaction. This news is coming from the Observer, so take it with the appropriately sized grain of salt.

For the gold?

What would be interesting to see is whether or not Rhodes still holds the undisputed title by then. I would argue that a match between Rhodes and The Rock doesn’t need a title. Nor does a match between Reigns and The Rock, which we nearly got in Philly. I really can’t imagine WWE putting the title on The Rock-if they do, it would surely be a short reign, setting up one of Solo or Roman to take him out (right?).

What also remains unclear is whether this would be another WrestleMania where the American Nightmare does double duty, or if Rhodes-Rock would be his singular match. I have to think if Rock gets Cody, that lines up Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa for a battle (presuming that we see that simmer until then). But again, a lot can-and probably will-change between now and then. We all know injuries happen, for example. One major one in the coming months to any key Superstar would render any early plans moot.
